Blumenhaus Wiedikon

This shopwindow belongs to a flower shop in Zürich Wiedikon. The street in which it is located is rather wide, but calm with little traffic and few passersby. Buildings of various age and style surround the one of the flower shop.

The facade of the flower shop house is separated in an upper and a lower part. Visible masonry and two small balconies define the structure of the upper part, whereas the lower part consists mainly of the shopwindow itself and a private entrance to the building.

Rusticated pilasters add to the appearance of the facade’s lower part. Different coloring of the bricks and walls further underlines the separation of top and bottom.

As the entrance to the shop is set back within the facade, the shopwindow acts as an extension of the shop that reaches to the sidewalk. The shopwindow consists of two displays that fill the space between the pilasters.

Approaching the shop from the outside, the first thing one notices are the big letters forming the word “BLUMEN” in a way that it can be read coming to the shop from the left or from the right. Below the letters, there are two black frames that are placed in front of the shopwindow. As an effect, the threshold space between inside and outside is layered into the area of the frames and the area of the displays. To see the inside, one needs to enter the shop.
