s’Nuscheli
The shop window is situated in a side street in the Schwamendingen district. Compared to the center of Zurich, the district is calm and quiet. Locals are strolling around. Following the tracks of the train, you turn right and find yourself opposite a childcare facility called «s’Nuscheli». It is located on the ground floor of a residential building. When going along the building, you eventually reach the entrance to the daycare center, which is roofed and therefore offers more privacy.
The shop windows give the cildcare facility a certain degree of publicity, which the owners wanted to reduce by covering the lower third of the windows with a non-transparent foil. The upper two thirds gives the shop an open, playful, transparent and therefore trustful ambiance. On the platform created by the bulge of the shop windows, the children and carers can fill the space with toys and children’s work, indicating the quality of the facility to the public outside and giving the children the opportunity to show their work.
The arrangement of the window is very symmetrical, with the axis lying between the two doors. A large stone stair tread leads up to the doors, giving importance to the entrance by elevating it from the street, creating a clear delimination between public and private ground. The shop windows are framed with metal, giving the fassade a clean and sterile appearance, above them is a narrow row of structured non-transparent windows that illuminate the upper part of the facade.
