Widdergasse 10

The shop window is located on Widdergasse, very close to both Rennweg and Bahnhofstrasse, two of Zurich’s most popular shopping streets. Widdergasse, located in Zurich’s central old town, is a pedestrian zone with limited car access.

Its central location means that Widdergasse is frequently traversed by both tourists and locals alike. As a result, the street is lined with shop after shop. These shops range from a restaurant and a pet shop (Widdergasse 10) to a be-spoke shoemaker.

The shop window at Widdergasse 10 is very unique, standing out with its archway and angled glass pane. The shop is right next to a florist, whose displays of flowers outside the shop partially obscure the view of the shop window from Münzplatz.

Additionally, the angle and inset of the shop entrance from the street slightly obscure it. Once inside, however, the high ceiling makes the shop seem large, despite its narrow footprint.

This spaciousness is further accentuated by the large window, which lets in a lot of natural light. Both the shop window and the interior are constructed from glass and metal. The window’s shape is very simple, but the angle towards the street creates visual interest.

In fact, the shop window itself attracts enough attention that the shop doesn’t need many elements inside to further draw in customers. The shop uses the upper part of the angled facade to display a slogan, catching the attention of passersby and essentially using the window as a billboard rather than a typical shop window.
