Jung Bakery
The back display window of Jung Bakery is located at the Enge train station in District 2 of Zurich. The central location attracts many businesses, which showcase themselves through large display windows. Yet, the display window of Jung Bakery stands out with its modest appearance, even though it is situated right in the bustling entrance hall of the train station.
The hall is characterized by a large circle that opens up into a dome at the top. Walls and floors are made of stone and create, in combination with the dark room, a sober atmosphere. The train station, built in 1886, reveals its age through its architectural style, but also through the slightly weathered facade.
The display window forms a threshold between the old exterior wall and the modern interior wall, which, in contrast to the rough exterior facade, appears smooth and polished. Through the clear window, one can see the front display window, which is oriented towards the street and presents a significantly larger selection of baked goods.
The framing of the display window is made of bronze, whose oxidation has visually reached its peak in a saturated green. The display surfaces inside are made of glass, which is supported by steel frames.
While the front display window is used for sales, the purpose of the back display window is to entice the customer’s desire for the goods. However, in the display window, there are only a few pastries on show, and in many places, it is completely empty.
