Regensdorferstrasse is located in Zurich’s northwestern district 10. Regensdorferstrasse 2 is located at a crossroads and is the first house on the right-hand side of the street in the direction of travel. It houses an Asian-inspired jewellery shop. There is also a post office, a UBS bank and an organic grocery shop at this busy crossroad.
The building at Regensdorferstrasse 2 has five floors. The ground floor is used for commercial purposes, while the other floors are occupied by apartments. The shop windows of the commercial units are well integrated into the façade composition and speak the same language as the residential windows. However, the three shop windows were not fitted with blinds. A sun canopy with climbing plants conceals the three shop windows and provides shade in the summer.
On the ground floor, a jeweller’s shop has been set up, displaying mainly jewellery in three shop windows that are rather small by today’s standards. Asian decorations and sculptures give the Zurich shop window an Asian style. The interior of the shop is mostly hidden by the jewellery displayed in the windows.
The house is a half-timbered building dating from 1836 and stands out with its red-painted wooden supporting structures. The building’s plasterwork is white and the blinds are green.
As the shop windows are surrounded by deep intrados, it is not immediately obvious what is inside the shop. In addition, thick stone frames adorn the shop windows and a knee-high concrete wall along the pavement add further expression to the shop windows.
