Im Viadukt

The Pie Shop is located in the 500-meter-long shopping street in Zurich, known as ‘Im Viadukt.’ This area contains various shops situated beneath and around the arches of the viaduct near Zurich’s main station. The shopping center is located on a side street.

The shops transform the underutilized space beneath the viaduct into an urban environment. The shop’s façade, spanning a width of six meters, is made of glass. Positioned just above the façade, the shop’s name is displayed in capital letters on the left, accompanied by its shop number, forty, on the right. The showcase exhibits a variety of homemade sweets.

Inside, the arch shape of the viaduct is maintained. The shop is equipped with shelves and tables displaying further homemade products. Further, there are freshly made pastries presented on a counter. The interior measures approximately eight meters in length and has a maximal height of five meters. It opens towards the open space in the middle of the viaduct, where the height doubles compared to that of the shops.

The façade beneath the stone bridge consists of plaster. Inside the shop the stone blocks of the viaduct are maintained, however the rooftop consists of plaster. The shops are disconnected from one another on the outside, but through the viaduct an open space is created, allowing the shops to connect from the inside.
