K Kiosk
The displayed shop window features a sales counter of a k kiosk. It is situated at Kreutzplatz, a large tram and bus stop on the edge of Riesbach, Hirslanden, and Hottingen.
Since there is no accessible space for customers inside, the shop window itself serves as the shop, and vice versa. Consequently, there is no door for entry for you as a costumer; you attract the seller’s attention by approaching the sales counter.
On display are classic products typical of a kiosk, such as newspapers, lottery tickets, snacks, sweets, and tobacco products. The building housing the shop was constructed in 1918 as a waiting hall with columns and a conical roof. Inside the hall, paintings depict a church and a spring that were once located there, along with the coats of arms of the former municipalities of Hirslanden, Riesbach, and Hottingen.
The waiting-hall provides shelter on rainy days, while giving you the opportunity to refill your stock on snacks. And who knows, perhaps soon the next lottery millionaire will have filled out and submitted their lottery ticket right there, at this small kiosk at Kreuzplatz.
