Adjacent to the Flagship Store lies the urban garden-style restaurant, Frau Gerolds Garten. Characterized by its proximity to transportation hubs, the district is marked by a juxtaposition of smaller structures and utilitarian storage areas. Originally constructed from 17 repurposed overseas cargo containers, with an additional 2 containers later incorporated to expand the facility, the building comprises a total of 19 containers set back from the street. This architectur- al approach not only accommodates the FREITAG retail space but also features an observation platform soaring approximate- ly 26 meters high, offering panoramic views of Zurich.
The utilization of shipping containers in the construction of their store epitomizes FREITAG’s core values. Renowned for their commitment to sustainability and the repurposing of materials, the brand’s ethos resonates deeply in their flagship store. Aligning with their philosophy of prolonging the life cycle of materials, akin to their utilization of reclaimed truck tarps and B-stock airbags in bag production, the flagship store underscores their commitment to cyclical thinking and action. Through exclusive incorporation of connecting elements derived from the shipping industry, the store ensures both durability and ease of disassembly.
