Bottega Berta

The pittoresque Italian restaurant, Bottega Berta, is located on the right side of the busy crossing between Bertastrasse and Aemtlerstrasse in Zurich Kreis 3. Bertastrasse is a lively boulevard and is popular amongst locals due to its vast variety of small cafes, bars, and restaurants. On the left side joins the Middle Eastern restaurant “Le Mezzerie de Moudi” and the right is border with a residential building. Two bus stations are also nearby.

In front of the restaurant are a weather-worn wooden bench and four small tables, which are covered by a red, retractable marquise. LED wall-lights and a round sign with the logo of the restaurant illuminate the tables by night. The façade dates to the late 19th century. It consists of rectangular greige sandstone stuccos with a chiseled texture, copper drainpipes covered with stickers and graffiti, white wooden window frames and a grey granite base.

The shop window points directly into the dining area. The upper part of the walls is coated with fine white plaster and on the lower part with glossy-stained oak panels. The floor is made from brown quarry tiles. Eye-catching is the abstract black and white artwork inspired by Keith Haring. Black porcelain shade lamps with large orange light bulbs engulf the space in a warm hue.

The shop window is kept simple, except for the yellow neon sign with the name of the restaurant. This enables the guests and waiters to watch the hustle and bustle on the street outside, as well as passers-by to peek inside.
