Wallisellenstrasse 6

Project by Heltriegel Roxani

The entrance of the residential and commercial building at Wallisellenstrasse 6 is located in the heart of Oerlikon. The building of the entrance bears the name ‘Metzgerhalle’ and appears as an architecturally valuable old building, which dates back to the 1930s and was converted into a residential and commercial building in 2017.

The part of the building surrounding the entrance is decorated with a gray plaster facade. Rounded and slanted oriels emerge from the facade and give the building an unusual character.

Stores and offices are an integral part of the ground floor, which, unlike the apartments above, have a very open design and are equipped with large window fronts. All the entrances of the building are characterized by curved windows and mark the transition from facade to the entrance door.

The entrance, due to the fact that it was moved inside the house, is well covered and thus protected from the weather. The boundaries of the entrance area are defined on the left side by a plain gray plastered wall and on the right side by large translucent windows.

The door of the entrance consists of a golden-brown metal frame, which matches that of the neighboring windows and can be opened on one side by a long vertical alternating round and angular door handle.

There is a three-step ascent in front of the entrance to level out the height difference of the terrain. The sidewalk is used very frequently, as a bus stop is located directly in front of the building.

One can look directly through the door into the interior of the house. Therefore, the entrance situation from sidewalk to threshold to the interior of the house looks overall very transparent and inviting.
