The main building of the Stadtspital Waid is located on the slope of the Waidberg and adapted to the topographical situation there. Because of the slope, the basement floors, which are shown on the drawing, have one less storey than the floors on the side of the valley, and the roof must have an oblique angle for this reason.

The long protruding roof is supported by the slender, square columns. Under the roof, one can see a very clean structure of a complex of doors and windows. The upper row consists of window groups that each contain three identical elements. The separation between every two groups extends downward till the ground and is also a separation of the lower part. Also, those separations are the corresponding construction of the columns, so that the building – or the frontage above all – seems uniformly and geometrically clear. The lower row is divided into several panes of glass that follow the regularity of the upper part. The two central panes are the main entrance of the building. It is not prominent at all, as not only the form but the materiality is absolutely the same as the rest of the panes, which are the big windows with sunblind.

The left glass pane is an electronic sliding door, while the right one is the display window that one can see through into the inner part of the portal. The installation of both is identical yet different to the rest of the lower windows, so that one can still recognise the entrance, although it is integrated with the other elements very well. Inside of the main entrance, there is another piece of glass which is the second door, having the same form as the one outside. The design of double door structure creates an extra space which can be seen as a process of transition from being outside to being inside.
