The entrance is located at the edge between the alumni lounge and the HIL building. It faces the Stefano-Franscini-Platz. That makes it easily accessi- ble from the square. Because of the wall on the right side of the doors, the entrance is partly concealed. Therefore, you cannot directly access it com- ing from the right side.
While the doors are mostly made of glass, the façade which surrounds them consists of a bordeaux-red metal. On the left side of the entrance there are windows, which align with the glass plates in the doors. The glass which the doors and the façade contain leads
to an incomplete separation of the inner and the outer spaces from each other – visually the public and private spaces remain connected. On the right side of the door there is an electric door access. It is located on an easily accessible height level. There is a roof over the entrance that extends three meters in length. The floor in front of the entrance is covered with pavement.
The position of the entrance aligns with the level of the floor in front of it avoiding a separation of the inside from the outside area once more. Hence, a very welcoming entry possibility is created.
Due to the covering wall on the right side and the as well covering roof above, a protected place is formed. Because it is shielded from the wind and from any precipitation, it attracts people, especially smokers. Still, as a consequence of the shielding, this entrance often goes unnoticed and therefore is not the main entrance of the HIL building.
