Stauffacherstrasse 55

Project by Ladina Naegeli

This entrance is located beside the Volkshaus. It leads into a public work building, which has multiple entrances, but this is the main one. The steps leading into the building separate the lively street and the workspace. Since it is a public prosecutor, there is a lot

of traffic in and out of the building. The cobble- stones mark the entrance even more clearly. Next to them there are a few parking spots and a lawn.

The round shape of the staircase invites the clients into the automatic motion sensored door. Due to the staircases in the entryway, the building is not wheelchair accessible. The door

is made out of dark steel, and has a mailbox attached to it. This gives the entrance a deeper look. On top of the door there is a cornice constructed in limestone surmounted by an embellished window. This window has -contrary to the entrance – a convex edging. It emphasizes the door, and gives protection from the weather. The decoration includes two reclining figures and a face in the center over the door.

From the third floor one can access a second window appearing as a small French balcony, but it is inaccessible.

The decoration there resembles antique volutes found on columns. This showcases the opulence and importance of the entrance.
