Regensdorferstrasse 19

Project by Ida Zakaryan

The entrance of the building at Regendorferstrasse 19, is the main entrance of a house with yellow plastered walls and dark green wooden shutters. The door’s frames and the windows of the first floor are plainly ornamented and made of grey stone, however it’s visible that this method won’t be used in the upper floors. The wooden door has a warm brown colour and has two panels. The upper panel is decorated with wrought iron. This concept is expanded as the railing is made using the same method. It starts from one side of the door, follows the concrete stairs, that connect the building to the street, until reaching the ground level. The post box is on the side of the building so that the facade will not be affected by its appearance. The general simple ornamentation may be done to attract the people at street level and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere yet keep a modest look, avoiding extremes. One can observe that the entrance is not necessarily attention-grabbing. Its role in shaping the facade is just little more than the windows’.

The building faces directly to the street. There isn’t an obstacle separating it from the street. Nevertheless the stairs and the railings take this role, elevating the entrance and wrapping it. The street is busy with its shops and cafes meaning, such a distance from the outside is needed in order to offer a peaceful entrance to the living space. The entrance fits to the building and the neighbourhood by being humble. Still it is unlike the others around as its elevation enhances the privacy of a living space.
