An untypical entrance for a restaurant. Stickers are stuck on the blue metal of the former industrial entrance. Graffiti decorates the yellow house wall. The building structure is functional, without ornaments or other decorations. Next to the door, two round lamps are located. Those lamps have the shape of a porthole.
This is no coincidence, as we are near the former ‘Schiffbau’. The blue entrance spreads a feeling of cheerful- ness in an industrial landscape. It is easy to imagine the hustle and bustle during the evening hours. Above the door, there is a sign with the name of the restaurant and bar ‘Les Halles’.
The door is a former back entrance. Today it is used by cus- tomers and waiters. The steel platform is accessible via a steel staircase. The platform above provides space for small tables and chairs. At ground level, a terrace offers space for several tables. It is on this very terrace where the attention to detail is remarkable. The chairs are bright red, the tables yellow and protected by blue and white umbrellas. Flowerpots mark the border between the street and the restaurant. On the street, old rails remind us of the industrial period of the ‘Kreis 5’.
