Pestalozzistrasse 16

Project by Riana Senn

The entrance is situated in a residential neighborhood and gives access to a four-story block of flats. It is a really quiet area with only few cars traveling along the street.

The door is framed by the letterboxes of the inhabitants and a small glass roof protects one from the rain while entering the building. The facade is painted in a light beige which stands in contrast to the paint of the doorway, wich is dark brown. Above the door one can find a small decorated window which allows light to flow inside the entry hall.

The facade where the entrance is embedded is moved forward a bit to create an additional half private space, used to store bikes, which is marked by a line of poles.

The entrance however is set back and embedded in the build- ing which forms a transitional space from public to private. The transition is additionally characterized by a metal door sill which markes the beginning of the private space.

The doorway is exceptionally wide, this allows families with strollers to pass through easily. Two lamps above the letterbox- es mark the entrance at night. To protect the wooden door from moisture, it is lined with metal at the bottom.
