The Classicist building at Pelikan-Platz 5 was built in 1875 and is currently used as an office space. Within the white, rendered facade, the entrance is the only richly detailed element. The entrance opens up to a narrow street, that is not accessible by car. The busy traffic space of the street crossing is close-by, but physically separated from this street by a small greened patch with trees and hedges. This separation gives a sense of calmness to the entrance and makes it appear less public. Together with the lush detailing of the door, this is used by the residing office to make a trustworthy and lofty impression on passers-by.
The door is framed by a rusticated stone arch with pilasters and a linear ornament with fruit and leaves. The pilasters stand on a solid base, in which boot scrapers are embedded. At the top of the frame, consoles cantilever onto the pathway, made from the same gray sandstone, supporting a small balcony.
Latter is composed of a stone slab and an ornamental balustrade. The railing has a bulbous shape and is richly detailed. The ornamentation features wrought iron lattices, C-curves and rings. It is further enriched by gilded foliage, rosettes and gem elements. The balcony can be entered through a door in the upper floor and at the same time provides a canopy to the entrance.
The door itself is made from wood and metal details. On the central panel of the door, there is a sculptural door knocker in the shape of a bird and a snake. The door is topped by a glazed transom, detailed in the same style as the balustrade.
