The analysed entrance is located at Murwiesenstrasse 45, 8057 Zürich. The building is positioned at the end of the street, which is fairly quiet. On the ground floor there are many shops with big shop windows. The rest three floors of the building are used for living. Because of different functions there are also different facades. The semi-public space has a grey metal façade, which is on some places already rusty, whereas the living area has a rough plaster façade in nude colour.
As already mentioned, the ground floor is used purely for working – there are shops and places with similar activities. In order to show and sell the products to the passers, there are big shop windows, which unveil the whole interior space.
Before entering the space, there is a threshold which consists of more layers. Firstly, there is a stair or change of the level. Secondly, there is an in-between space or middle zone. At the end of the in-between space there is a door. Because of the function
of the space, the entrance has to encourage the passers to enter the place, that is why the door is almost entirely transparent. The material used for the door – glass, battels and minimizes the threshold when entering.
