Mühlebachstrasse 162/164

Project by Areti Gijzen

This entrance is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The building is sheathed with a brick facade which makes the entrance stand out from the surroundings. Some bricks appear in a variety of colors; red, blue, yellow, green etc. Unlike the rest of the building, the entrance designed in organic architecture. Elements of nature and human, the curved shapes and features of bodies, are visible.

The entrance rather stretches the width, although the door does not take it. Since the entrance is adorned by a sculpture it’s an artistically designed and thus very concisely marked entrance. Its function is therefore more aesthetic than practical. The art emphasizes the entrance, promotes its identification, Furthermore this ‘art on the building’ creates publicity and gives the location a new, additional profile. Its striking appearance attracts people.

The trapezoidal shape of the entrance is reminiscent of a store. Behind the entrance is a company located. The company arouses curiosity in people through this peculiar-looking entrance and is inviting. Also, the location is prominent in the sense that the entrance is located exactly at the intersection of Mühlebachstrasse and Rudolfstrasse.

In summary, I note that it is a very unusual entrance for this environment. It is designed in a way that I have never seen before in Zürich.
