Hofwiesenstrasse 322

Project by Rosa Heer

My entrance is in district 11, near Oerlikon rail station. The row of houses where my house is located in, is directly on the busy Hofwiesenstrasse. My chosen entrance is directly on a narrow pavement adjacent to parking spaces. It leads into a typical Zürich old building that presumably contains four flats, as can be seen, among other things, from the four names on the doorbell plates.

The entrance is slightly set back, which gives it privacy. The grating of the glass on the ground floor also makes the entrance look more private. Likewise, the plain façade in earth tones contributes to this reserved image. The door of the entrance is made of solid wood, presumably oak, and looks a little worn in places from the years. The lower part of the door is in a worse condition than the upper part, as the rain only reaches there.
The upper part is protected by a small roof. The gratings already mentioned serve the entrance not only as a protective function but also as a decorative element. The horizontal grating elements emphasize the horizontal of the street, while the vertical elements pick up on the vertical of the house.
