The Kunsthaus museum is located in Kreis 1 in the heart of Zürich. It consists of four buildings that surround the Heimplatz, and defines the contours a busy square, with roads crossing, tram and bus stops, a kiosk, taxi stand and benches. The wide sidewalk in front of the main entrance connects directly to the square.
The most recent extension of the museum is an orthogonal volume with facades composed of pronounced horizontal lintels and vertical mullins of colored sand natural limestone. The public entrance is placed in middle of the facade, articulated by an elevated opening.
The opening is divided in three parts, of which two brass doors placed between tow side windows and on top of them a horizontal window. Those three windows give the transparent frame, it makes the brass doors become the most solid element of the facade.
Both doors have a sensor for automatically opening system. Often the visitors are just a second too faster to grab the door handle. So, the first impression to entre a building will become very heavy!
