The Tahara-House belongs to the Islamic cemetery and is hidden behind a brick wall in the same style. With it’s bold orange and white colored bricks it shows a nice contrast to the dark ambient at the cemetery itself. The entrance can be seen through the fence, which connects the brick wall around the cemetery and is one of many gateways.
As it is located right next to a busy road, you feel like entering a new world after passing by the fence and standing in front of the wooden double door. It has different ornaments such as round stained-glass windows or brick patterns. On both sides of the door are two columns in the ionic order which seem to be the framing the entrance. It has three steps from the ground to the floor of the house and has a multi-layered cornice with decorations as well. The house is shaped in octagon and connected with another rectangle which has two round rooms on both sides and is therefore a polygon. This complicated geometry combined with its ornaments and colors gives off a lively and bold aesthetic.
Surrounded by many trees, it is the only area at the cemetery which seems to be somewhat hidden by those trees despite its colors and forms. Only a minute away from the train station ‘Zürich Friesenberg’ is where this architecture is located.
