Brown-Boveri Strasse E12

Project by Thierry Hornung

The corner building is a multi-story building in a modern architectural style. The building facade is composed of a combination of brick and concrete. Inconspicuous under a balcony is the private entrance to the building.

The entrance is a classic modern door made of aluminium and glass with a matte finish. The exception is the handle, which is made of chrome- plated metal. The door is framed by a large window and side windows, through which you can partially look inside, where only a staircase can be seen.

This door itself has an interesting placement, because it is located underneath a balcony right at a corner of a house. It is hidden from people’s gazes from almost every direction, only onlookers standing at the corner could see in. Meaning that no one can see the entrance anywhere except from the crossroad, where on the other side there is nothing. The door is hidden from direct view from the more frequently used roads and therefore is very private. The road itself is not in the centre of the city’s daily rush. Thus, the door is a quiet place where it’s inhabitants can come and go freely without being seen.
