Wiedikon station was the first equestrian station in Switzerland. The reception building stands like a bridge across the rail lines emerging from a tunnel and was built in 1927. It is constructed of gray stone.
The brown-orange brick roof goes almost directly over into the facade, which makes the building appear higher. The building has a perfect vertical symmetry with seven long vertical windows, that are made of milky glass and cannot be opened. The window frame is made of white colored wood, while the whole window has a slightly yellowish stone frame. They guide your eyes to their middle, where the three entrance are located. You can decide in between the three wooden doors to get into the entrance hall that are made of thick walls. The entrances are fabricated from heavy dark brown wood, which makes them swing back and forth when letting them close. The doors also have windows, which this time have transparent glass and are framed with steel. To prevent the doors from rotting at the bottom, they are wrapped with a shiny silver material just below the window openings.
In front of the entrances there is a medium sized square out of cement which connects to the tram stop and on the right side to the bus station. Car traffic and two tram lines dominates the scene in front of the station building. Two massive corner buildings were created in the early 1940, so that the station itself has turned out the be somewhat small in the overall appearance.
