Bauherrenstrasse 53

Project by Nabila Zimmermann

The entrance belongs to a public building which is part of a church. It’s a café and a place for families to spend some time there. The door itself is made from a dark wood with a dark window and a filigree design on it. Due to this, the inside isn’t visible from the window. The window is small and doesn’t attract anyone’s attention. Whatever happens behind that door, is made very private even though it’s the main entrance.

With only five steps and railings on both sides of the stairs, the door is reached. The transition from the public to this semi-public space doesn’t happen smoothly because of those stairs. On top of that, the door has a doorknob in the middle and it’s not a sliding door for example, where you can just walk inside the building. The height of the entrance shows a certain importance as you can look down at your surroundings when you arrive. The top landing is wide enough to stand comfortably and open the door peacefully.

On top of the door there is a small canopy. It gives protection against any weather and is made of stone. Two windows with red frames and blue shades are placed on each side of the door. With roughly having the same width as the door, all the elements fit perfectly with each other in the façade. Additionally, there are four post boxes in-between the left window and door.

Next to the façade is a single parking space. Some other buildings surround the church but there is a lot of space in- between them. This leaves a lot of room for the public to move and to find the entrance very easily because it directly faces this open space.
