The Museum für Gestaltung is located on the Auss- tellungstrasse in the heart of Zürich’s Kreis 5. It is an imposing monument, linear, grey, mostly made of concrete and designed on an orthogonal plan. The first floor does not extend the entire length of the building, one part is almost completely glazed and the other is an open space, covered by the continuity of the second floor, itself supported by three massive columns. The floor of this space is lined with large stone slabs. This is where the main entrance to the museum is located.
The building has a modernist style, with a cold and grey appearance. The entrance is an exception with its lightness and colorful touches. One enters through a first glass door, framed by black metal rods, which de- limits the exterior of the vestibule, and then through a second similar door that takes the visitor inside the museum. The floor is covered with terracotta tiles, al- most the only touch of color in the building.
The surroundings of the entrance contribute to the pleasant atmosphere. In front, colorful tables and chairs are arranged and serve to furnish the terrace of the museum café. This terrace is accompanied by a fountain and a pond below. Facing the entrance, two green spaces separated by a road surround the mu- seum and contrast with the gray of the architecture. An expanse of grass on one side and the Klingenpark on the other, with shrubs, hedges, grass and tall majestic trees, contribute to the relaxing atmosphere.
