Schaffhauserstrasse / Meinradstrasse

Project by Gokulan Manoharan

The streetcorner of the building at Schaffhauserstrasse 7 in Kreis 6 of Zürich situated at a very busy and broad road. The most remarkable part of this corner is the outstanding tower topped by a saddle roof.
The corner part of this building is surrounded by a vegetaded yard which is seperated by a metal fence from the pavement.
The tower begins with a base which is made out of natural stone. Its surface, facing the the mainstreet, is rough whereas the other faces are smooth.
The corner elevates two more stories. Its walls are smooth and beige-painted. In the first storey there is a small balcony, towering over the entrance in the groundfloor. The frame of the balcony door is shaped differently. On the same level, the windows on the same side as the balcony are worked out whereas on the other side, not facing the main street, the frames of the windows are less worked out.
The same pattern can be observed on the façades of the second floor as well.
The transition from the second to the third floor is marked by an interruption. A stone line seperates the second floor from the third. In comparison to the other lower levels the third level is remarkably shorter in height.
The third floor is topped by a saddle roof. It’s borders are standing out from the walls of the tower.
