The corner represents the southern facade of the “student village” student dormitories at the Hönggerberg Campus of ETHZ. The planning started in 2008 and the building was finished in 2016. It was designed by the architectural practice ‘Architektick’, which is based in Zürich. The building consists of five stories and a facade made out of upwards facing beige metal bars, which underline
the height of the structure. The situation on the main street of the Hönggerberg campus means that not only pedestrians cross the street quite often, but also cars, especially bus lines, pass the corner frequently.
Due to the street right next to it and walkway being across the building, the corner is mostly seen by people driving up to ETHZ by bus. Therefore it gets an important and prominent role at the Campus, welcoming guests and giving the first impression of the site for people driving up to ETHZ from the city center.
The rooms on the corner facing south are exclusively student dorms, because the common rooms, kitchens and bathrooms all face the interior of the building. The dorms are equipped with a table facing the window, a bed and two shelves. There is no path directly passing the corner, which leaves room for grass and plants growing and a small gravel trail, which decorates the ground next to the facade.
