The corner between Kornhausstrasse, Rotbuchstrasse and Rötelstrasse lies at the border of Wipkingen and Unterstrass – two family friendly and hip quarters in the center of Zürich, not far away from river Limmat.
The building is plastered with a grey color, while having a white colored frame around each window. There is a spread out pavement in front of the building as well as some bicycle lanes, which allow cyclists to make it around the corner as safely as cars.
One specialty is that the corner is split into two seperate corners. This results in three niches, two on the inside and one on the outside, which gives the building some additional form.
The house consists of five floors, out of which the first floor is home of the Café Kafischnaps since 2006. Above the café, there are little hotel rooms and regular apartments. During summer, the café is allowed to place tables and chairs outside. Four big windows make it possible for people passing by to have a glimpse inside the café. Due to the fact that the café is filled with people most of the time, the corner receives an inviting and social character. This is underlined by the surrounded traffic, as well as passengers walking by, enhancing the corner with lifeliness
