Kasernenstrasse / Lagerstrasse

Project by Monique Cruz

The building where this corner can be found was first constructed during 1927 and 1930. This building was originally mainly used as a post office. This changed throughout the years and 2013 until 2015, the Sihlpost building was reconstructed by Max Dudler Architekten. Today this corner is a part of an Italian restaurant. The change from a very simple and dull post office to a modern post office and a well-lit restaurant is a big change.

The original structure is made out of reinforced concrete, which creates a neutral atmosphere. The many windows, which decorate the building in a certain way very well-lit from the inside.

The windows look same-sized at first glance; however, the first window row consists of small windows whereas the second and third row consist of medium-sized windows and the third and fourth of large-sized windows. The change of window size makes the building stand taller due to the optical illusion of an elongated façade. The biggest windows however are found on the floor level are the biggest ones, which are also more mother ones, due to their single-glass construction.

Interesting enough, the lower side of the corner gives off a quite young and modern vibe due to its big windows and unpainted concrete walls. However, this is the case on the front side of the building, which is the main entrance to the restaurant, and not the right side of the building due to the black window bars. The tables at the entrance of the restaurant further gives the corner a young and friendly atmosphere.
