Im Sydefädeli / Hönggerstrasse

Project by Suter Isabel

The street corner is located in Wipkingen at the foot of the Hönggerberg and is on one of six new, identical buildings finished in 2016. They are also called the ‘Toblerone-houses’ due to the six interlocking, triangular-shaped residential buildings span between Breitensteinstrasse and Hönggerstrasse.

As shown in the drawing the three peaks are occupied by balconies, characterized by the geometrically given, three-sided orientation. The triangular floor plan configuration on the one hand allows a variety of views through the neighborhood and on the other hand beautiful panoramic views from the apartments.

The facade is plastered and the balcony elements are made of prefabricated concrete with a structure.

The building structure in Wipkingen is characterized by a green urban area, interspersed with individual buildings. It is located close to the river and also well connected to the city as the settlement is facing the Wipkingerplatz where to find public transport. As it is built for a cooperative settlement, community and family friendly living is also very important. A large common room, kindergarten, after-school care as well as ateliers and commercial rooms complete this diverse space.

Access to the houses is from street level. The site is situated on a gentle slope. A public footpaths links the northern part of the district directly to the adjoining recreational areas.

As a concession to the surrounding area, the facades of the triangular houses were plastered and horizontally structured in clear colors, so that their height is optically broken and fits better into the neighborhood.
