The depicted building is located in a very busy place. It stands on a square where it is very noisy, most of all because there are some big roads around it that are congested with traffic at almost any time of the day. The area on which the building stands could be described as a small cultural island. The Schauspielhaus is one of its direct neighbours and there are several galleries and libraries nearby. The building that we’re talking about is the Kunsthaus Zürich.
The actual museum was built in 1914, but it was extended in 1958 with this additional building by some swiss architects called ‘die Gebrüder Pfister‘.
The upper part of the building consists of a massive concrete construction that contains some of the exhibition rooms. In the lower part there is a small bistro with large and translucent windows. With its visual appearance it is big contrast to the impenetrable upper part.
In general, the corner shown is an interesting part on the building because it fulfils a variety of functions. On one hand, it offers a large advertising space for itself. This space also serves for communication with the outside world and offers an insight into the inner life of the museum. On the other hand you can see, that the corner is also integrated into the infrastructure of Zürich.
On the wall there is a streetlamp fixed, to keep the surrounding illuminated. But there are also cables attached, that ensure that public transport can be supplied with electricity. The upper part of the building stands out a bit, so it can fulfill the function of a roof under which, for example, one can find protection from rain.
