The Central is one of the most important squares in Zürich. It is a nodal point for the private and the public transport because of its proximity to the main station and its centrality in the city of Zurich. Many people are crossing the square every day because the ‘Polybahn’ and the many different tram stops to go to work or the university.
The Central has its name from the ‘Hotel Central’, which was built in 1883 at ‘Central 1’. Nowadays the Hotel is still there, and you can find for example the ‘Schroder & Co Bank AG’ in the south of the Building ‘Central 2’ on the first floor.
The corner adjoins to the Weinbergstrasse and the Central square. It isn’t exactly rectangular because of the shape of the parcel. The face of the upper four floors has a strict subdivision and is made of natural stone. The windows help to strengthen this disposition. The ground level of the building has a facade with glass and metal.
