The Building on Mutschellenstrasse 59 and 61 is a private residential building made up of 2 identical houses, mirrored along the central axis. The façade is covered with many decorated motives and sculptures. It was built in 1897 and renovated in 2016. A low bush offers some privacy for the ground floor, creating distance to the pedestrians. The bottom two floors have round- arched windows, while the upper two have square windows. The building features many balconies, including 3 small ones on each corner. These have iron railings which curve outwards towards the middle. Another 6 large balconies are situated along the center of the building, facing the street. These are flamboyant, as 4 columns in different styles support the balconies with stone railings. There is a spacious, central porch underneath. The balconies are large enough to eat and sit on. Each floor has a partition with a window in it. Taking the central position into consideration, I assume that they were used to show off one’s appearance and wealth to the public eye.
