The portrayed balcony is situated in the upcoming urban part Kreis 3 in Zurich. The two French balconies on the first and second floor face the very busy street, which is used by pedestrians as well as cars and streetcars. Nestled in the modern new building, designed by the architects Müller Sigrist, they complement the simple but dazzling façade. The façade features a color spectrum ranging from orange to turquoise, creating a strong contrast with the black window and door frames.
The balconies serve as a connection to the city and the outside world, which takes place directly in front of it. With the opening of the two generous windows, one can bring the outdoors inside. Secured by a metal railing and bordered by the massive walls, it invites to discover what is happening right in front of one’s door and offers the same qualities as a commercial balcony. Placing a bench in front of the window automatically creates a dining table outside which can be used accordingly. The window ledge allows to place plants, coffee cups and other things on it and therefore acts as a storage area. The large glass fronts generate a lot of daylight, but on hot sunny days, the shutters can be easily lowered to provide cooling shade.
