This apartment building is located in the quiet, residential, historical neighborhood of Wiedikon in the middle of the Kreis 3. The architecture features a lot of antique Greek elements, such as the columns with different capitals or as well a frieze. This is remarkable because the rest of the C shaped building is built in the style of the 50s architecture in Switzerland.
The choice of materials was kept easy and is underlining the antique aspirations. The beige color tones, together with the stone imitating surface are reminders of the marble used in antic Greek temples.
The facade facing the public space consists of over and over reoccurring balcony structures. The balconies on the 1st to the 3rd floor are being overlapped by the next stories balconies, therefore the rain and the wind can only penetrate through the open front and the open half of each side of the balcony. The southwest orientation of the facade leads to an enjoyable temperature and exposure to sunlight on the balconies. Nevertheless, for really hot summer days a sunscreen can be extended.
Because one half of the balcony is extending over the facade itself and intruding the public space and the other half being a concave intrusion into the buildings voluminous, these balconies serve not only as a theoretical intermediary space between private and public, but also structurally. Some residents have put little tables to dine at on their respective balcony, thereby it becomes an outside dining room.
