Eichbühlstrasse 62

Project by Lea Jenzer

My balcony is in the Kreis 4 located. The neighborhood is family friendly with no larger streets in the area. Nearby is a park with a playground for children.

The Balcony is located above of a Kiosk and a snack-machine. This makes the direct environment rather public, and I can imagine that the area is used during the whole day. Because as far as I know, kiosk opens early in the morning and close late in the evening.

The balcony itself has a practical use for the inhabitants of the apartment. Despite being in a very public setting, the balcony however, is designed as a relatively intimate place for its residents. Because of the closed construction and material there is no way
to see how the balcony is furnished and used and gives thereby a comfortable privacy to the user. It is a long, narrow balcony which goes around the edge of the building. This shape doesn’t allow space for a large round table or other big objects. So, the use is
not meant to be for large gatherings. Nevertheless, on the balcony could be placed a small table, a grill, or the wet laundry.

Because the balcony goes around the corner of the building there is a connection on two sides. One faces the building on the opposite side and the other follows the Eichbühlstrasse. With these different views the user can choose if it wants to link with the neighbors or if it wants to observe its surroundings.
