This four-story residential apartment block located in the centre of Kreis 8 was built around 1920. It fits well into the higher-class urban neighbourhood with its generous balcony and the small garden area as well as a parking lot. Various trees and bushes planted in front of the building together with the stone wall from the entrance create a more private area for the habitants. Regardless, the plastered parking lot between street, garden and balcony is a place of interaction between privacy and publicity.
The remarkable balcony itself is attached to the front façade and extends over three stories. It’s sitting on a small wall base and finishes off with a slightly skewed roof. It matches the look of the building well with all the detailed decorations forged into the pillars and railings of the steel structure. While the lowest section is only slightly elevated from the ground floor and hence accessible from the street, the balconies above are only connected through two windowed doors leading into the apartment.
Each floor’s balcony is furnished individually by its inhabitants. Plant pots, tables and garden chairs create a small diversity across the different stories and simultaneously embody a part of the resident’s lifestyles.
