Alfred-Escher-Strasse 64/66

Project by Helen Bangerter

The building is located close to the lake in an area where most of the houses are either old, big residential houses or bulky office buildings. In contrast to that area the building is kept in a simple fashion and has a rather clean and modern aesthetic. The building opens to its backside, where the balconies are located. The six- story façade is divided into two different sections. The lower four stories have balconies that do not stick out of the facade. What means that there is a sort of cave-feeling the already existing feeling of intimacy. Every apartment has its individual balcony that hasn’t any connection to the other apartments so that they can enjoy themselves on their own. On the contrary; the ground floor all residents share a large garden that stretches out the whole length of the building creating a communal space. Although each apartment sections of his own access to the garden, the space seems to be used in a very social way.
